Reabsorbable Bone Void Filler

Why Chose A-GRIX?:

A-GRIX Resorbable Bone Void Filler is to be used for bony void or gaps of the skeletal system (i.e. the extremities, spine and pelvis) that are not intrinsic to the stability of bone structure.

  • A-GRIX is osteoconductive, facilitating new bone growth by inhibiting non-osteogenic cellular growth. It will be completely resorbed and replaced by new bones during the healing process.
  • Fully resorbed within 3 months, the dissolving rate of A-GRIX is much more synchronized with the rate of new bone growth.
  • Easy to use, allowing for adequate operation time.
  • Vacuum-packed to ensure the quality and safety of the product in different enviornment.
  • A-GRIX is completely synthetic, eliminating the risks of disease transmission and immune rejections.
  • It is rediopaque, which is visible on radiographs, allowing the physician to monitor the progress during surgery and post-operative follow-ups with ease.
  • It may be used for most osseous defects, including pediatrics and infected trauma sites.

Why Calcium Sulfate?

Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) is highly bio-compatible material that has been clinically used in the repair of bone defects and augmentation for bone-healing for over a hundred years. A non-inflammatory, non-exothermic, non-toxic, non-irritating synthetic material, it has long been proven to be an ideal alternative to autograft and allograft, and its effectiveness has been long established in numerous clinical trials and studios.

  • Unlike other Calc1um salts, Calcium Sulfate resorbs mamly by dissolution rather than osteoclastic resorption. This unique reaction undergoes a different biomechanism, which makes it function not only as an osteoconductive scaffold, but also a st imulant for bone regeneration.
  • The dissolution of Calcium Sulfate in vivo will release Calcium ions and sulfate anions, lowering the PH of the trauma site to acidic, which accounts for the suppression of bacterial growth. This property makes it the proper graft material for patients with bony defects, or osteomyelitis.
  • The acid1fying reaction will cause the adjacent bone to de- mineralize, causing it to release induct1ve proteins from the surrounding host bone. Defects tmplanted w1th Calcium Sulfate maintain a htgh concentration of growth factors that promote bone regenerat1on.

  • The use of Calcium Sulfate significantly increases angiogenesis during bone regeneration. Microvessel density of Calcium Sulfate-treated sites have been observed to increase by more than 40% when compared to autograft treated sites. The increase in blood vessels provides more oxygen, nutrients and growth factors to the site of the regeneration, thereby improving the recovery process for the 4 patient.

The Technology:

Formosa B1omedical Technology Corporation utilizes the latest Material Science Technology to solve the major limitations of Calcium Sulfate. Made from medical grade Calcium Sulfate, A-GRIX is composed of granules w1th longer dissolution rate and higher strength than other products. The finely milled pellets increase its durability, while the characteristics of the Calcium Sulfate paste allow for easy and flexible applications. The structure of A-GRIX, therefore, will last longer when implanted, allowing for a longer dissolving t1me, which is critical to new bone growth.

Biomechanic Restoration Results:

The biomechanic restoration performance was evaluated by measuring the breaking strength of drilled rabbit femurs after implantation. The new bone restoration rate of A-GRIX-filled group was 99.23% at 5 weeks after implantation, Indicating that the use of A-GRIX may significantly accelerate bone healing.
